Transcript  for video Supporting you through bereavement

When someone close to you dies, even simple things can feel overwhelming.
You may be dealing with a lot right now, and financial decisions might be the last thing on your mind.

We want you to know that you’re not alone.
At Aviva, we’re here to support you and make things as easy as possible.

When someone passes away, there are a few steps that need to happen to help us close or manage accounts and make sure everything is handled correctly. We’re here to guide you through them and answer any questions you may have along the way.

We’ve tried to make letting us know someone has died as simple as possible. To begin, we’ll need to gather some information from you, so we can understand the situation and locate the customer’s details. You can share this information by completing a notification form on our website, or, if you’d prefer, you can call us and we’ll take the details over the phone.

First, we’ll ask for details about the person who has died, such as their full name, date of birth and address. If you have a policy number, that’s helpful - but please don’t worry if you don’t, as we can usually locate the customer’s information.

Next, we’ll ask for your details, and how you’re connected to the person who has died.

If we’re not able to confirm your identity, there may be some details about the policies that we won’t be able to share, but we’ll still do everything we can to support you.

As part of the notification process, we may need some more information, such as details from the death certificate or the grant of probate. If we need anything further, we’ll get in touch.

Remember, you don’t have to do this alone. At Aviva, we’re here to help as much as we can. If you have questions, feel unsure about anything, or need guidance at any point, please reach out.

If you need emotional or practical support, organisations such as Citizens Advice, Mind and Cruse Bereavement Support are there to help. Links to these organisations, along with more resources, are available on Aviva.co.uk.

Thank you for taking the time to watch this video, we hope it's helped during a difficult time. When you feel ready, please visit our bereavement hub or contact us to find out more.”
