What is diagnostics insurance?
It’s a type of health cover that pays your costs for getting a diagnosis, and helps you skip the potential NHS waiting lists when you need to find out the cause of a medical problem. With our diagnostics insurance, ‘Speedy Diagnostics’, you’ll get access to private consultants and specialists, so you can have diagnostic tests with no fuss. And although you won't be covered for any treatment costs, there are no limits to the amount we’ll pay out for your diagnosis.
Avoid potential NHS waiting lists
Private tests and consultations to get an initial diagnosis, at times that are convenient for you
Lower costs
More affordable than full health insurance because it doesn’t cover the costs for any treatment
Wellbeing benefits
Access to the Aviva Digital GP app, Stress Counselling helpline and money-saving offers at over 3,000 health and fitness clubs
What our diagnostics insurance covers
Our cover focuses on getting you the diagnostic tests and consultations you’ll need for an initial diagnosis.
What's covered
- Specialist fees for outpatient consultations and diagnostic tests
- Diagnostic tests such as CT, MRI and PET scans, X-rays, blood tests and ECGs
- Specialist fees for inpatient and day patient diagnostic tests
- Inpatient and day patient hospital charges for diagnostic tests such as an endoscopy
What's not covered
- Cost of treatment
- Consultations and diagnostic tests after a diagnosis has been made
- Routine medical examinations and screening
- Pre-existing conditions
If we look at your full medical history when you apply (full medical underwriting), we’ll usually exclude any conditions you had previously. If we don’t look at your full medical history when you apply (moratorium underwriting), when you make a claim, we’ll ask about any pre-existing conditions you had in the five years before you took out the policy. These conditions will only be covered if you’ve been free from medication, treatment, diagnostic tests or advice for them for two continuous years after taking out this policy.
This is a summary of the cover and exclusions. Please read the Speedy Diagnostics terms and conditions for full details.
Types of health insurance
We offer two types of health insurance — full, private health insurance cover and diagnostics only cover. Both can help avoid NHS wait times, however because our diagnostics cover doesn’t pay for any treatment, it’s cheaper than traditional private health insurance.
