What is diagnostics insurance?

When it comes to health, sometimes finding out exactly what’s causing your problems is half the battle. With our ‘Speedy Diagnostics’ cover you’ll have access to specialists, so you can skip any NHS waiting lists for diagnostic tests and get them done quickly and fuss-free. And don’t worry about how many tests you might need — while this plan doesn’t cover treatment costs, there’s no limit to what we’ll pay for your diagnosis.

The benefits of our diagnostics insurance

  • Get to the front of the queue

Arrange private tests and consultations at times that are convenient for you

  • Keep your costs down

Because this covers your diagnosis and not your treatment, it’s more affordable than a full health insurance product that includes all your treatment.

  • Oodles of extras

Get even more help from our bevy of extras, like the Aviva Digital GP app^, a Stress Counselling helpline and money-saving offers at over 3,000 health and fitness clubs with Get Active*

What our diagnostics insurance covers

Our cover is here to help you get an initial diagnosis as quickly as possible, so you can focus on what to do next.

What's covered

  • Specialist fees
Get access to private outpatient consultations and outpatient, inpatient and day patient diagnostic tests
  • Diagnostic tests
You’re covered for everything from CT, MRI and PET scans, to X-rays, ECGs, and blood tests
  • Hospital charges
We’ll cover the fees for inpatient and day patient tests, like endoscopies and biopsies and specialist fees for outpatient consultations and diagnostic tests

What's not covered

Unfortunately, we can’t cover everything — make sure you’re happy with what you can’t claim for, including:

  • Treatment
The cost of any treatments after your diagnosis isn’t covered by this plan
  • Routine screenings
If your medical exams or screenings are part of routine health checks, they’re not covered
  • Post-diagnosis
Consultations and tests after your diagnosis has been made aren’t covered
  • Pre-existing conditions
If we look at your full medical history when you apply (full medical underwriting), we’ll usually exclude any conditions you had previously. If we don’t look at your full medical history when you apply (moratorium underwriting), when you make a claim, we’ll ask about any pre-existing conditions you had in the five years before you took out the policy. These conditions will only be covered if you’ve been free from medication, treatment, diagnostic tests or advice for them for two continuous years after taking out this policy.

Types of health insurance

We offer two types of health insurance — full, private health insurance cover and diagnostics only cover. Both can help avoid NHS wait times, however because our diagnostics cover doesn't cover the costs for any treatment, it’s cheaper than traditional private health insurance.

This table shows the main differences between these two types of cover:
