What are investment trusts?
Investment trusts (ITs) are companies listed on a stock exchange, like the London Stock Exchange, that invest in a range of assets, such as shares, bonds and property. When you invest, you're buying shares in the investment trust, which are traded on the stock market.
They're managed by professional fund managers who make decisions about what to buy and sell, with the aim of delivering long-term growth or income.
Because investment trusts are "closed-ended", they have a fixed number of shares. This means their share price can trade at a premium or discount to the value of the underlying investments.
