Buy & sell shares

Invest in shares

Build your portfolio with thousands of UK shares. Buy and sell when it suits you, stay in control of your investments, and track everything in one place. Investment values can rise and fall.

Investing can offer higher returns than cash savings over the long term (five years or more). However, shares are typically higher risk than some other investments. Their value can rise and fall, so you could get back less than you invest.

What are shares?

Shares represent a small ownership stake in a company. When you buy shares, you’re investing in that company’s future. So if the value of the company grows, the value of your investment could rise too.

Some companies also pay dividends, which are regular payments to shareholders from their profits. However, share prices can go down as well as up, prices vary quickly and returns aren’t guaranteed.

Shares can play an important role in a long-term investment strategy, helping you grow your money over time.

You can place a deal online through your account by selecting the investment and confirming your order. Deals can typically be placed during market opening hours, although availability will depend on the market you're trading in.
