Annuity income with £30k, £100k, and £300k pension pots

Planning for retirement can often mean deciding how you want your pensions savings to support you for the rest of your life. For some that might be an annuity, which is a reliable way of turning your pension pot into guaranteed income.

Key points

  • Annuities can provide a guaranteed income for life, and you can tailor them with options like single‑life or joint‑life cover depending on your needs.
  • The income you receive from an annuity depends on several factors, including your age, health, interest rates, and the type of annuity you choose.

What is an annuity?

An annuity is a form of retirement income that you purchase with your pension pot.

You can choose between a few different options when it comes to an annuity, like whether you want it as a single or joint life annuity. A single life pays you for just that, your life. Whereas a joint life will pay you for your life and then will also pay a chosen percentage to your named beneficiary or dependent. This might be your spouse or could be a dependent.

  • your age.
  • the current interest rates.
  • your health.
  • what type of annuity you’re choosing.
