How our annuities help power windfarms

Find out how your annuity premiums could be invested to help power wind farms, create social housing and more.

Aviva’s purpose is to be with you today for a better tomorrow. Sustainability is a fundamental part of our strategy and integral to what we do as a business. When you buy an annuity with Aviva, we expertly invest the money – that’s how we guarantee to pay you an income no matter how long you live.

Because an annuity could last for decades, long-term investments which incorporate sustainability considerations can be a great option. Below are some examples where Aviva is choosing to invest your premium for a better future.

Investing in UK infrastructure

Aviva invests in a way that supports our sustainability ambition – taking action on climate change and helping build stronger communities. Below are some examples where annuity premiums have been invested by Aviva Investors on behalf of Aviva Insurance Wealth & Retirement.

Renewable energy

We've invested in renewable energy projects including finance for offshore wind farms, including Hornsea Two, which is located 90km off the Yorkshire coast

Social housing

Social housing

We provided funding to social housing association Cross Keys Homes (CKH) to support its development plans. CKH will use the funding to support its ongoing growth and development plans, including the building of its flagship scheme in Northminster, which will provide 315 affordable homes.

Velindre Cancer Centre

Velindre cancer centre

We’ve invested to provide financing towards development of a new treatment facility providing specialist cancer services.

Located in Whitchurch in the north west of Cardiff and 6km from the city centre, the new Velindre Cancer Centre will be located on a 7.8-hectare site.

It replaces the existing treatment facility which was originally built in 1956 and which currently provides specialist cancer services to over 1.7 million people in South East Wales and beyond.

With ambitions to achieve low-to zero-carbon, the scheme will target a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and is designed to use all-electric solutions and air source heat pump infrastructure, supporting low energy demand and low operational carbon. A strategy is in place to reduce site waste through off-site manufacture of components, to minimise transportation requirements and create efficiencies in the construction and maintenance of the hospital.

Electric public transport

We've provided finance to UK electric fleet specialist Zenobē, to help facilitate the roll-out of EV buses in the UK.

The funding will help Zenobē lease e-buses to UK bus operators and continue to expand the number of electric vehicles and charging equipment in its network.

The company is currently aiming to deliver 4,000 electric buses, trucks and commercial vehicles on the road by 2026, including a £140 million project to deliver 130 new double-decker zero emission all-electric buses in Coventry, built in Falkirk.

While these are examples of investments that consider sustainability, we recognise that some assets we invest in today and in future will be associated with significant emissions. To help us meet out ambition to become a Net Zero company by 2040, we aim to evolve our investments over time.
