What’s covered in your policy

We like to do things a little differently at Aviva. That’s why we want you to know everything about your policy before you take it out.

Here, you’ll find a summary of all the things that are included in your car insurance policy – and what’s not included in the standard cover.

So, with our comprehensive car insurance, you’re covered for theft, fire and damage to your vehicle, as well as:

  • Uninsured driver cover
    So you’re not left out of pocket if you’re in accident with an uninsured driver that wasn’t your fault.***
  • Personal belongings cover
    We’ll protect things such as personal computers and portable audio equipment up to £150.
  • Recovery transport
    We’ll make sure you can continue your journey if your car is not safe to drive – and get your car to a repairer – if you’re in an accident.
  • Windscreens, sunroofs and mirrors
    All glass in your vehicle is covered as standard – whether it needs replacing, or just a quick fix.
  • Mobile repair network
    We can arrange for a mobile repairer to visit you, at a convenient time and location, for many cosmetic and body repair claims, on cars over 3 years old.****
  • Quality guarantee
    For the life of your policy, we make sure that work done by our approved repairs is always up to scratch.*****

All this and you can take control of any costs you might have to cover by setting your own excess limits – from £150 to £1,050.

What’s not covered in your policy

There are always some things that we won’t be able to cover – usually in situations where it’s difficult to know why something’s gone wrong, and who may be at fault.

Some of these things are:

  • Electrical breakdown
    That’s any problems with the onboard computers in your car – as well as electrical components.
  • Tyres
    Any punctures, cuts or bursts – including those caused by braking.
  • Resale value
    We can’t cover you for any loss in value of your car after repair.

Questions about car insurance

What’s the difference between comprehensive and third party, fire and theft car insurance?

Comprehensive car insurance covers you for more scenarios than any third party, fire and theft insurance.

With comprehensive cover, we’ll make sure your car is repaired if it’s damaged if you’re in an accident – whether you were at fault or not. You’ll also be covered against any injury caused to someone else or damage to their vehicle or property.

Third party, fire and theft insurance is available for cars worth under £5,000.

It only covers injury or damage to other parties involved in a crash but it will still protect your vehicle from damage caused by fire or theft.

Am I insured to drive someone else’s car using this policy?

If you choose comprehensive cover you’ll be insured to drive another person’s car – but only up to the limits of third party insurance. Please see policy booklet for full exclusions.

This means that if you have an accident in someone else’s car, we’ll only cover the costs of the other person and vehicle – and not you and the car you’re driving.

What information do I need to start a car insurance quote?

Before you start your car insurance quote, make sure you’ve got the following details to hand.

Car details

First, we need to know your car’s number plate. It’s not absolutely essential, but it will save you time if you can provide this.

You’ll also need to let us know about any modifications to your car.

No claim discount (NCD)

For an accurate quote, you’ll need to tell us the number of years you’ve had a continuous no claim discount. You should be able to get this information from your current car insurance provider.

Your licence details

We’ll need to know the type of licence you have and how long you’ve had it.

Claims, accidents or convictions

We’ll need to know the date and type of any accidents you’ve had in the last 4 years. For example, if the accident was your fault, or someone else’s.

You’ll also need to let us know about any driving convictions you’ve incurred in the last 5 years.

You’ll need to provide this information for any additional drivers you want to add to your policy.

Details of any other drivers

You’ll need the full names of any other drivers you’d like to add to the policy.

How do I insure more than 2 cars?

You’ll need to call us on 0800 001 4002 if you’d like to get a car cover quote for more than 2 cars.

Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am-8pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday and Bank Holidays 10am-4pm. Calls may be recorded and/or monitored.
