Life insurance with no medical
Can I get life insurance without a medical?

When you’re looking for life insurance, you might be asked to have a medical examination. For some people, this can feel like a barrier placed firmly in your way.
Can I get life insurance without a medical exam?
Yes, you can get life insurance without a medical exam.
Most life insurance providers will ask you some health and lifestyle questions to figure out which policies they can offer you. In some cases, depending on your answers, they might then need further information from your doctor.
In other cases, you may also be asked to sit a medical exam depending on your age, and the level of cover you're applying for and in some instances for pre-existing conditions you have. This usually takes place at your home and involves some simple measurements and blood tests.
What happens at a life insurance medical?
A life insurance medical exam is a process where insurers assess your health to determine the risk they are taking on by insuring you. It usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes. This is to ensure you get accurate blood test results.
Here’s what you can typically expect to happen:
- Medical questionnaire. You’ll be asked detailed questions about your medical history, current health status, lifestyle choices (such as smoking and alcohol consumption), and any pre-existing conditions.
- Physical measurements. The exam includes measuring your height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse.
- Lab tests. Blood and urine samples are taken to help us assess your general health.
After your exam, it may take a few weeks for your insurer to calculate the premium, coverage, and terms they can offer you.
What happens if I don't answer medical questions correctly?
When applying for life insurance, honesty is the best policy. Providing false or incomplete information can have serious consequences, including:
- Policy voiding. Insurers can cancel your policy if they find you've been inaccurate.
- Claim denial. In the event that your beneficiaries have to make a claim, they could be stopped from getting any money.
- Legal consequences. Deliberate misinformation can be considered fraud and potentially lead to legal action.
You can avoid this happening by giving accurate answers to your insurer’s questions about any medical conditions you may have. Double check any details before you submit them and disclose all relevant information, even if it seems like a minor thing or somewhat unrelated.
This is the best way to ensure your loved ones will be able to make a claim should the worst happens.
Which life insurance policies are guaranteed not to require a medical exam?
Over 50 life insurance policies don't required a medical. They provide guaranteed cover for your lifetime.
Our over 50 life insurance is offered as a 'whole of life' cover and is designed to provide cover for the rest of your life, rather than a set term. If you're a UK resident aged between 50 and 80, your premiums will stop after 30 years or the policy anniversary following your 90th birthday. The cover will continue with no cost to you.
Be aware that, over 50s life insurance only covers the policyholder and can't be taken out on a joint life basis. Depending on how long you live, you could pay more in total premiums than the total cover amount. There is no cash in value at any time. The cover amount is fixed and inflation can reduce its value over time.
