What is pet insurance?

Think of it as a life jacket for your pet’s health. Depending on the plan you choose, it can cover or pay back the cost of their medical needs. So, whether it's X-rays, medicines, hospital stays, surgeries or accidents – pet insurance could help you save money and protect your finances if there’s a surprise emergency.

Pet insurance for dogs and cats

We've teamed up with Animal Friends Pet Insurance to provide cover for your dogs and cats. Animal Friends have been around since 1998 and now cover more than one million pets across the country and they’ve donated over £8.5 million to more than 800 animal charities.

Through Animal Friends Insurance, all dog and cat owners have instant access to qualified vets through the Joii app 24/7. Plus, there's no more deciphering policy documents - all Animal Friends policies are recognised by  Fairer Finance,  as being clear and easy to understand.

  • Round-the-clock vet consultations through Joii

  • Symptom checker through Joii

A tool that makes thousands of clinical decisions - created by vets for pet owners.

  • Access to health clinics

With qualified vet nurses on a range of topics from check-ups for puppies and kittens through to weight management and dental checks.

Why insure your pet?

Not many dogs or cats are fans of vet visits, but most will have to go at some point – whether it’s skin issues, taking a tumble or facing mishaps like road accidents or run-ins with other animals or pets.

That's where pet insurance from Animal Friends steps in, making sure you’re covered for those unexpected vet bill curveballs. Keep in mind, pre-existing conditions aren't covered so it’s important to double-check your policy documents to understand what you're covered for.

How does my pet’s age affect pet insurance?

With Animal Friends you can cover your cat or dog from 4 weeks old.

Pet insurance premiums go up as your pet gets older because the chances of your pet getting ill increase. Excesses (what you need to pay when you claim) apply to all Animal Friends’ policies and a co-payment is currently in place for claims if you renew your policy after your dog turns 8 years old or your cat turns 10.

Co-payment for cat lovers

For cats over 10 years old, you’ll have to pay 20% of each claim on top of your excess.

Co-payment for dog lovers

For dogs over 8 years old, you’ll have to pay 20% of each claim on top of your excess.
