The Gulf is an area that’s highly regulated when it comes to healthcare. Our Gulf Solutions product has been specifically created for you if you’re living or working in Bahrain, Jordan, Oman or the United Arab Emirates.

Changes to regulations in the UAE (excluding Abu Dhabi)

The Dubai Health Authority has recently introduced new laws that apply to new policies, and for renewing policies on a phased basis. Please see our Gulf Solutions Update flyer (PDF 119KB) for details of the changes from 1 October 2015. If you bought or renewed your policy before 1 October 2015, please refer to your Gulf Solutions documentation, visit our existing customer area or contact us. With Gulf Solutions, you can rest assured that you will have compliant cover in line with the new laws.

The Gulf - new countries

As of 1 March 2015, Gulf Solutions is also available if you're based in Bahrain or Jordan, as well as Oman and the UAE.

Why do you need a specific Gulf policy?

It’s all to do with new laws: in some areas for example, to satisfy visa requirements, you may need to show evidence of having health insurance that’s been provided by a locally licensed insurer.

We’ve worked in collaboration with Bahrain Kuwait Insurance Company, Arab Orient Insurance Company, Oman Qatar Insurance Company (OQIC), Emirates Insurance Company and NAS Administration services to create a policy that is entirely appropriate to the territory. And, you can be reassured by the fact you’ll still benefit from a wide range of features if travelling outside the region. Full details are in our Gulf Solutions brochure (PDF 2.64MB) and Gulf Solutions for individuals based in the UAE policy summary (PDF 2.64MB)

Key benefits of our Gulf Solutions policies

Above all you will have the reassurance of knowing we’ve worked with local insurance experts to design policies that can support your healthcare needs specifically in Bahrain and Jordan (from 1 March 2015), Oman and the United Arab Emirates, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

  • Compliant with local regulations – we’ve made sure our support is based on local expertise in this region
  • Extensive benefits as standard - and extra benefits you can add
  • Clear benefit terms for complete peace of mind
  • Easy claims process – with direct settlement, even for dental and optical claims

Gulf Solutions 1 gives you access to a range of core cover benefits as standard. To increase your cover, you can select Gulf Solutions 2, 3 or 4. Adding each tier will add an extra level of cover to the policy. If you select any of these options, your premiums will increase.

For new and renewing policies from 1 October 2015

For new and renewing policies from 1 October 2015, please see the benefit levels below. For all existing customers, and new or renewing policies prior to 1 October 2015, please refer to your policy documentation.

Gulf Solutions 1 – core cover

With an annual benefit limit of US $8m, these benefits are offered across all four Gulf Solutions policies.

In & Day-patient Care

We’ll provide cover for accommodation, intensive and high dependency care, nursing care and operating theatre costs.

We’ll also cover specialists’ fees, diagnostic tests, radiology (such as CT, MRI and PET scans), kidney dialysis, internal prostheses and rehabilitation. If you require additional treatment prescribed by a specialist whilst in hospital, such as treatment by a physiotherapist or a dietician, we’ll also cover this. These are just some of the in & day-patient benefits offered by Gulf Solutions, please download the brochure (PDF 2.64MB) for full information.

International Cancer Pledge

We’ll cover all the treatment and palliative care, recommended by an oncology specialist. We’ll also make things as comfortable as possible after treatment with cover for aftercare, including a contribution towards prostheses and wigs. Stem cell treatment will not be covered.

Out-patient Care

Our core cover includes the key elements of out-patient treatment that you would expect from your Gulf Solutions policy, such as consultations with a specialist, diagnostic tests, radiology (including MRI and CT scans), minor surgery and out-patient treatment such as physiotherapy. We’ll also cover the costs for up to 10 speech therapy sessions, on referral by a specialist, following a hospital admission for trauma or stroke. Please refer to the Gulf Solutions brochure (PDF 2.64MB) for all the out-patient benefits included within core cover. For individuals living and working in the UAE please see the Gulf Solutions for individuals working in the UAE policy summary (PDF 2.64MB).

Additional Benefits

Our home nursing benefit levels run for 60 days and complications of pregnancy are covered as standard. However, in some parts of the Gulf, you will also need the additional cover provided by our Maternity upgrade option, which provides cover for the more routine costs.

Everyday Healthcare

We include many of the benefits you would receive from your local GP, such as prescription medication and vaccinations and up to 20 consultations with a doctor per person per year.

Optical benefits are included and we’ll cover routine sight examinations and contribute towards the cost of prescription glasses and contact lenses. We also cover other GP referred treatments out of this benefit, physiotherapy, and we offer cover towards hormone replacement therapy (benefit limits apply).

Condition Management

Acute phases of congenital or hereditary conditions are covered up to US $80,000 and treatment for HIV and AIDS is covered up to US $16,000.

Evacuation & Emergency Assistance

If treatment isn’t available locally, we’ll arrange for your evacuation to the nearest facility even if that’s in a different country, providing it is medically safe to do so. All Gulf Solutions policies also automatically benefit from a range of repatriation and compassionate travel benefits as standard, giving more cover in the event of family emergencies.

Gulf Solutions 2 – adds dental care

When you upgrade to Gulf Solutions 2 you will have all the benefits included within Gulf Solutions 1, plus you’ll receive up to US $2,400 cover for dental costs.

We’ll pay towards the cost of routine dental check ups and dentistry, such as X-rays and fillings. We’ll also pay towards complex dentistry such as porcelain crowns and caps, extractions and dental surgery, as well as orthodontic treatment for children. Usually, we’ll settle bills directly with the dentist.

If you take out this option your premium will increase.

Gulf Solutions 3 – adds Additional Out-patient & Alternative Therapies

Additional Out-patient & Alternative Therapies

By taking out Gulf Solutions 3, you will receive all the core benefits in Gulf Solutions 1, plus the dental benefits of Gulf Solutions 2, and get additional support as an out-patient such as psychiatric treatment and out-patient rehabilitation.

You can also benefit from a comprehensive range of alternative therapies such as ayurvedic, Chinese medicine, acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropody, podiatry, osteopathy and chiropractic treatment. We’ll pay up to US $4,000.

We’ll also include up to five speech therapy sessions for any children that you have covered on your policy.

If you take out this option your premium will increase.

Gulf Solutions 4 – adds Wellbeing

On top of the benefits included in Gulf Solutions 1, when you upgrade to Gulf Solutions 4 we’ll include all the benefits of Gulf Solutions 2 and 3, and ‘Wellbeing’ – a range of benefits to help you stay as healthy as possible.

We’ll provide cover towards the cost of routine and other physical examinations, such as mammograms, prostate screenings, and cover for hearing and dietician tests. And we’ll also cover vaccinations for leisure in addition to business travel. In most cases, we’ll settle bills directly with the medical facility.

If you take out this option your premium will increase.

Gulf Solutions gives you the flexibility to add maternity cover to your policy – whichever tier of cover you choose – either to meet local laws, or as an optional added value benefit in areas where maternity cover isn't a mandatory requirement.

By adding maternity to your Gulf Solutions policy, you and your family will have the peace of mind that you’ll be covered for pregnancy or childbirth, including pre- and post-natal care. Our maternity option also provides cover for investigations into the cause of infertility. If you choose to add maternity cover to your policy your premium will increase.

We offer the option to add Maternity cover to any of the Gulf Solutions products. However, in some countries maternity cover is a mandatory requirement. Maternity cover will automatically be included on new and renewing policies from 1 October 2015 if this applies to you.

FAQs about Gulf Solutions

Why do premiums need to be paid in Dirhams for cover in the UAE?
Due to local laws in the United Arab Emirates, premiums must be paid directly to Emirates Insurance Company (the provider of your Gulf Solutions Cover in the UAE) in Dirhams. For all other countries, premiums have to be paid in US dollars. You will be invoiced accordingly.

What documentation will you receive?
Our local insurance provider will send out a welcome pack with your full policy details and Gulf Solutions membership card(s). We recommend that you keep these cards with you at all times as they will be required when seeking treatment.

You will also have access to a member portal, details of which will be in your member pack.

Why do you need photos?
Along with our standard Gulf Solutions literature, you will be issued with a Gulf Solutions membership card. This is mandatory, due to local regulations in some Gulf countries – in the main, it’s for reasons of security and ease if you need treatment.

What is the claims process?
Your Gulf Solutions member document will provide all the information you need if you need to make a claim - it's quite straightforward:

  • Should you need to, your claim will be administered by NAS Administration Services. You will find the right phone number for the country you’re in on your Gulf Solutions membership card, or, if needed, you can call NASs’ main switchboard direct on +9712 6940700. Most claims will be settled directly with the medical facility, even dental and optical.

You will need to show your Gulf Solutions membership card to get treatment – that’s why we recommend carrying it at all times. NAS will then liaise with the medical provider, and in most cases will organise direct settlement of any invoices. We’ll send details of how to claim with your documentation.
