So far so good

Having bought my car insurance this year through Aviva, I decided to get a quote for home insurance. I saved £70 compared to the renewal quote from my previous insurers. That seems pretty good to me.

Terrible customer service. Unnecessary emails.

Bought home insurance. Insurance fine, but all unnecessary emails and no way of stopping these. No one answering the phone; just a whole load of options leading to yet more options none of which was appropriate.

Excellent service throughout.

Because I have motor insurance with Aviva & was satisfied with them, I decided to get a quote from them for our home insurance. The online forms were very easy to go through & they asked the minimum to quote. They were extremely competitive, the cover offered was very comprehensive & also offered free monthly payments. I phoned them to clarify some aspects of the cover. The rep was very knowledgeable & pleasant & what he didn't actually know, my query was a bit different, he quickly found out about. I went ahead with the policy as it offered excellent value & in the knowledge that a company that has been around for as long as Aviva was unlikely to cause problems should a claim be necessary.

Could be cheaper

Even with the 20percent member discount there were cheaper options on comparison sites. Lumping the car, motorcycle, and house and contents all with the same provider is convenient for me, but does actually cost more. I have been with Aviva for a long time, and the adverts on TV (while annoying) that now state that existing customers are treated better than new are about time. Perhaps the nudging by consumer champions are actually having an effect. I did get some very good customer service a while back after damage to my car. I am still dubious about levels of cover, particularly contents when I have a minimalist approach to clutter.

Required full quote process to update my cover

Had to spend over 30 minutes applying for a new quote because I needed to increase the cover on my life insurance. I was simply told that it's easier to create a new policy than to change the values of an existing one. What utter nonsense.

Hi there, unfortunately with life insurance when you need to make changes additional questions may be required, we cant use the previous information as this may have changed since you too your policy out. I hope this helps.
