Find and combine your pensions

Bring your missing pensions together

Our free service can help track them down, check them and combine them for you. Investment values can rise and fall.

Understand the level of risk first

You will need to compare charges and investment options. We will check for any exit fees that could be charged and for certain valuable benefits that could be lost by transferring. We’ll also help you check for any others. You may be required to get financial advice, which you’ll have to pay for, if we find any pensions with these benefits. The value of your investments may go down as well as up, and you may get back less than has been paid in.

What is Aviva's Find and Combine service?

There’s £31.1 billon in missing pension cash out there. Footnote [1]  We created our free service to help find money that may belong to you.

Find

We'll search for your lost pensions that could leave you better off in retirement.  There's no amount too small to look for, it all belongs to you.

Check

We can check any pensions we find for certain valuable benefits you could lose by moving them and exit fees. Then you'll have the information you need to make a decision.

Combine

Bringing your pensions together can give you a clearer view of your retirement savings, and they'll be easier to manage. It could even mean lower charges.

How does Find and Combine work?

Apply online Step 1 of 3

Give us as much information as you can about where you've worked and/or any pensions you might have had.  Applying online takes around 20 minutes and then we'll start the hard work to track them down.

Get the details Step 2 of 3

We'll check for certain benefits or if there are any charges for moving your pensions. You can see what we check for here. You should check for loss of benefits that we don't check for. You’ll usually be able to view each one online as they come in.

Decide what to do Step 3 of 3

If we find a pension, we’ll create a personal pension dashboard for you. Our Find and Combine service gives you the option of bringing eligible pensions together into a new or existing Aviva pension, but there’s no pressure to transfer them if you’re happier keeping them where they are.

Why trace your pensions?

Checking for old pensions today can be a smart move for the future.

  • You could find forgotten pension pots and boost your savings.
  • You can make sure your money isn't in high charging or poorly invested schemes.

Why consolidate your pensions?

Bringing your pensions together into one pot can have some clear benefits.

  • One pension can mean less paperwork and a clearer idea of your retirement savings.
  • It may mean lower overall fees, which can help boost any investment gains.

There's no guarantee you'll be better off by combining your pensions, and your current provider may not take your money back if you change your mind.

Frequently asked questions

What do you need to get started with Find and Combine?

To use our Find and Combine service you'll need to be a UK resident and be looking for pensions based in the UK. You'll need a MyAviva account or MyWorkplace account - if you don't have one, you can register for these during the application process.

You'll need to use MyWorkplace if you have a workplace pension with an account number starting with "GS", or a membership number starting with "F". You can find your account number or membership number on your policy documents, statements, emails or letters we've sent you.

There's no guarantee you'll be better off combining your pensions, and if you change your mind your old provider may not take your money back.

For security, you may also have to verify your identity. To do this you’ll need a passport or driving licence as photo ID, plus your mobile phone (to take a selfie).

To find lost pensions, you’ll need your previous addresses and name (if there’s been any change), plus employment or provider details for any pensions you think you may have.

To check pensions you know about, you'll need the pension provider name, policy number, and any name and address you may have given to the pension provider.

How long does it take to find and combine my pensions?

Not all providers are quick to respond to a request for information about pensions. So, it may take from four to twelve weeks from you applying until we can give you information on your pensions.

If you decide to combine your pensions with us, it can take another three to six weeks until your money's with Aviva.

Will this service always trace lost pensions?

Sometimes we can't find a pension. This could be for a number of reasons including things like not being able to locate who your employer's pension scheme was looked after by. We'll always try and find a pension but if we can't, we'll contact you to let you know.

Does this service check for pension benefits and charges?

When we contact your pension providers, we’ll check for all safeguarded and certain valuable benefits you may lose by consolidating your pensions, or any charges for transferring. You can see which ones we check for here.  We'll also help you check for other benefits that could be lost.

Can I transfer into my existing Aviva Pension?

Yes, for some Aviva Workplace pensions and our existing Aviva Pension (SIPP) you’ll be able to transfer into those pensions. If you are able to transfer into an existing product with us, we’ll explain how to do this when we share your pension results.

If you can’t transfer into your existing Aviva Workplace pension or Aviva pension, we’ll tell you how you can transfer to a new Aviva Pension (SIPP). Then you can decide if it’s right for you.

Does this Find and Combine service offer financial advice?

No, this service doesn’t offer advice on your pensions.

At Aviva, we do offer financial advice, so you could speak to one of our experts. Click here to find out more. Or you can find an independent financial adviser at Unbiased.co.uk. There will be a charge for advice.

Can I save my application and return to it?

We're afraid not, so it's important to have all the information you need to hand. Once you've applied and when you have a dashboard, you can return to it at any time.
