What is health insurance?

Health insurance, also known as private medical insurance, helps pay for private medical care for short-term injuries or illnesses. It gives you more control over your treatment choices and may reduce how long you wait for appointments, such as symptom diagnosis or surgery.

Why choose us for health insurance

We're delighted that our private health insurance has been awarded 5 stars by both Moneyfacts and Defaqto - two trusted industry experts. Here's some of the reasons why we're a leading provider of health insurance:

  • It takes a name you can trust
Over 1 million Footnote [2] people agree, and have health insurance with us.
  • Access to 100s of hospitals nationwide
Whether you choose Expert Select or a hospital list, you'll have access to a wide range of private hospitals and facilities. These include Circle, Nuffield, Spire and NHS private units.
  • Quality you can rely on
Our health insurance is rated 5 Star by industry experts, Defaqto.
  • We reward loyalty
Existing Aviva customers get up to 10% off new policies Footnote [3].
  • Save up to 15% on your first year premium
If you meet our health-related eligibility criteria. The discount will reduce over future renewals. Please view the My Healthy Discount Footnote [4] terms and conditions (PDF 65KB) for full details.
  • Renewal price guarantee Footnote [4]
Take out a new health insurance policy with us, and we'll guarantee your premiums won't increase at first renewal if you haven't made a claim that's reduced your no claim discount level. Terms and conditions apply (PDF 63KB).
