Do I need Health Insurance?

What you're not covered for
  • Chronic conditions
    We cannot cover incurable long-term illnesses such as diabetes, arthritis, epilepsy and asthma  –  please note that cancer care is covered as standard
  • Pre-existing conditions
    We’re unable to cover any previous health condition you’ve had prior to applying for our cover
  • Pregnancy and childbirth
    We only cover treatment for complications during pregnancy and childbirth 2

How much does Health Insurance cost?

It depends on your circumstances and the features you choose, so consider what’s important to you. Enhancing your cover will increase what you pay, and opting out of features you don’t need, or paying an excess, will reduce your premiums.

Your age and where you live also affects what you pay, along with your claims history, if you’re switching from another provider.

How our claims process works

Once you’re covered with us, making a claim and accessing private treatment is quick and easy.

We paid out nearly £403 million in claims during 2017 7 - so you can count on us to help you overcome illness or injury.

Visit your GP

See your GP or contact Aviva Digital GP if you're feeling unwell. If they want you to see a specialist, just tell them you've got private health insurance with us. If you ask for an open referral, we can help you find a hospital and consultant that's covered by your policy.

Make a claim

You can make a claim quickly online using MyAviva or over the phone. We'll just need to know your symptoms, when they started, and what you've been referred for. If we've approved your claim, you'll get the private treatment you need.

And we’ll pay for treatment

After you've received any eligibile treatment, send us your invoices. We settle most bills directly with the hospital or specialist, but we'll contact you if you need to pay any part of an invoice, for example, if you have an excess.
